Program Overviews

Public Forum Debate

Public Forum Debate is the most popular format of competitive debate in the U.S. today. Our debate program is led by the various nationally-esteemed coaches on the Omega Staff. All of our instructors were ranked top 10 in the U.S. during their high school Public Forum debate careers.

The Public Forum program is divided into three levels: Novice (1 year or less of experience), Junior Varsity (1-2 years of experience), and Varsity (2+ years of competitive experience). At each level, students will receive lectures, participate in interactive exercises, and debate practice rounds, all to master various debate skills and techniques. If you’re interested in exploring and mastering the art of persuasive argumentation, then this program is where you belong!

Competitive Speech

Our Competitive Speech Program is led by Livingston High School Speech Captain and nationally-ranked competitor Hannah Kim. This program introduces beginners to a variety of competitive speech events offered by high school speech and debate teams. These events will include Original Oratory, Declamation, Dramatic Interpretation, Oral Interpretation, Humorous Interpretation, and Duo Interpretation. Hannah’s course is designed to provide students with a more public-speaking-centered experience than our debate program can, as well as prepare them to succeed at high school speech tournaments. Thus, whether you are a student who feels the need for a stronger public speaking foundation before entering debate, or who aims to compete on the high school speech team, this program is the best fit for you!

Student Life at our summer camp!

COVID-19 Policy

Our COVID-19 rules, regarding masking, social distancing, etc., will strictly follow all current guidelines from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and New Jersey State Health Department.

Lunch

At camp, students will have the opportunity to eat lunch during a 1-hour break. Lunch can be eaten either in the dining hall or outside on picnic tables. Students can either bring their own lunch or purchase lunches from the camp.

Free Time

In addition to being a lunch period, the daily 1-hour break will also serve as “free time”. If students are not eating lunch, they have 3 options to spend this free time with:

1. Participate in fun, instructor-led team-building games!

2. Play sports such as basketball or soccer!

3. Meet with an instructor for “office hours” to ask questions about content taught during class, do speech/debate drills or exercises, or receive feedback on topic preparation!
